President Ahmadinejad in Qom to inaugurate gas reservoir

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad arrived in holy city of Qom on Saturday to inaugurate the first and largest Middle East gas reservoir.

According to IRNA, he is to inaugurate Sarajeh gas field which has been turned into a gas reservoir for the country.
The region’s first gas reservoir will be put into operation with the ultimate goal of extracting over 1.5 million cubic meters of gas for Sarajeh gas field.
The project is aimed at checking fluctuating production rates and compensating for the gas shortage in cold months of the year.
Once the project is operational, gas produced in southern parts of the country during hot months will be injected into Sarajeh to be reserved there and then be transferred to different parts of the country during the cold months.
Sarajeh gas field is located 40 kms southeast of the holy city of Qom, 140 kms off Tehran.
It was first implemented in 1958 by digging 9 wells.
Over 750 million cubic meters of gas have bee reserved in the field since last year.
