President Ahmadinejad’s Elder Brother Registers for Presidential Election

A0339250The elder brother of Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad came to the Interior Ministry Saturday morning to register his name as a candidate in the June presidential election.

Speaking to reporters at the Interior Ministry’s Election Headquarters on Saturday, Davoud Ahmadinejad said that he will run for presidency as an independent candidate.

Davoud, a former director-general of Iran’s civil defense, has different positions and views from his brother who is the country’s current president.

The 11th presidential election will take place on June 14, 2013. Registration of candidates started on May 7 and will finish at 6pm this afternoon.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election and the Guardian Council vets the candidates for qualifications.
