President Describes Iran-Turkmenistan Relations as “Brotherly”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad said Iran and Turkmenistan enjoy close and brotherly ties, and added that the two countries’ leaders are determined to further consolidate mutual cooperation in all the various fields.

Speaking to reporters upon his arrival from a day-long visit to Ashgabat on Thursday, President Ahmadinejad stated that Tehran and Ashgabat have also strengthened their ties in political fields

“Relations between Iran and Turkmenistan are special, deep, brotherly and cordial and the volume of ties between the two countries in the economic sector, particularly in the fields of energy and investment, and also in the cultural area are advancing on a regular basis.”

He said that in the meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow, the two sides called for enhanced bilateral cooperation.

Ahmadinejad was in Turkmenistan on Thursday in a bid to participate in the international Nowrouz celebration ceremonies.

Iran attaches great importance to its strategic ties with Turkmenistan due to the country’s strategic position in the Central Asia.
