President Mursi Sees Settlement of Palestinian Issue as Prerequisite for Peace

A1125033Egyptian President Mohammad Mursi underlined the necessity for finding a fair solution to the Palestinian issue, calling it a prerequisite for peace in the region.

Addressing the opening ceremony of the 12th summit of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Cairo, Mursi said, “Solving the Palestinian issue is the cornerstone in achieving stability in the region and the world.”

He voiced Egypt’s commitment to support for the Palestinian nation, and noted, “Establishment of peace and a Palestinian state is not possible as long as Palestinians have not restored their rights.”

As regards the crisis in Syria, Mursi called for a comprehensive approach and collective efforts by all the relevant sides and political parties to resolve the crisis.

He added that Egypt has begun consultations with other regional and international parties to find a solution to the Syrian crisis.

The 12th summit of the OIC has opened in Cairo and the meeting has brought together the leaders of 26 of the OIC’s 57 states, including the presidents of Iran and Turkey.
