US detains journalists in Afghanistan

US-led foreign troops have arrested two journalists working for Al-Jazeera in Afghanistan, claiming they were suspected Taliban propaganda facilitators.

Mohamed Nader was picked up from his home in southern Kandahar Province on Wednesday.

Rahmatullah Nekzad was arrested two days earlier in Ghazni Province.

The two men worked for Al-Jazeera Arabic service.

In a statement, US-led forces have described the men as suspected Taliban media and propaganda facilitators.

Al-Jazeera has rejected the claim, calling the arrests an attempt by the NATO leadership to suppress the network’s coverage of the Afghan war.
