Iran’s president on Saturday voiced the country’s readiness to build hydropower plants in Kyrgyzstan, implement road and railroad construction projects in the Central Asian country and help it gain access to international waters through Iran’s southern ports.

Speaking at a joint press conference with his Kyrgyz counterpart in Tehran, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said there exist good grounds for the promotion of economic ties between Iran and regional countries, including Kyrgyzstan, following finalization of a lasting nuclear deal between Iran and the Group 5+1 (Russia, China, the US, Britain, France and Germany).

He said Iran is ready to provide Kyrgyzstan with the necessary technical and engineering support to manufacture hydropower plants, something he described as a good option for electricity generation given Kyrgyzstan’s geographical position.

Iran is also ready to carry out transportation projects in Kyrgyzstan, Rouhani added, noting that Iran’s southern ports, such as Chabahar and Bandar Abbas, could also link the Central Asian country to international waters for commercial purposes.

He further expressed Tehran’s preparedness for closer cooperation with Bishkek in scientific, technological, academic, and cultural fields as well as in medicine and tourism.

President Rouhani also cited the Kyrgyz official as saying that all barriers to Iran’s accession to the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) have been lifted and that Iran’s membership in the organization would serve the interests of Tehran and Bishkek given the ongoing security conditions in the region.

The Iranian chief executive further unveiled plans for the formulation of a 10-year arrangement on the expansion of Iran- Kyrgyzstan relations.

Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev arrived in Iran late Friday at the invitation of President Rouhani.

A high-ranking delegation of Kyrgyz officials accompany Atambayev on the visit.

President Rouhani had already visited Kyrgyzstan in September 2013 to attend the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit; Tasnim reported.
