Iranian candidates hold final live debate on foreign policy

Iran presidential candidates are holding their third and final live debate on television, which focuses on foreign policy, Press TV reports.

The eight candidates are expected to use the Friday debate to discuss their foreign policy approaches and their plans on how to tackle US-led Western sanctions against the country.

The debate will also include issues such as the conflict in Syria, the presence of foreign troops in the region and Iran’s comprehensive talks with the P5+1 group (Britain, China, France, Russia and the United States plus Germany) on the country’s nuclear energy program.

On Wednesday, candidates outlined their social and cultural policies in the second round of live debates aired by Iran’s national broadcaster.

MP Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, President of the Center for Strategic Research of the Expediency Council Hassan Rohani, former First Vice President Mohammad Reza Aref, Tehran Mayor Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf, former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi, and former Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Velayati are competing in Iran’s 11th presidential poll.

Iranians will go to the polls on June 14. The fourth city and rural council elections are also scheduled to be held on the same day.
