Iran to Send Medical Team to Iraq

A1132417Iran is due to send a medical team of skilled physicians and nurses to Maysan province in Southeastern Iraq to treat the patients in the area, Iraqi officials announced on Monday.

The remarks were made by Governor-General of Maysan province Ali Davi Lazem.

“The details of the mission to Iraq was discussed in my meeting with Iran’s Consul-General in Basra Mokhtasabad,” Davi Lazem was quoted as saying by Shafaq news.

He appreciated Iran for its humanitarian aids to Iraq, and said the medical team will be sent to Maysan province after Iraq’s health ministry officials made repeated requests in this regard.

Iran and Iraq have enjoyed growing ties ever since the overthrow of the former Iraqi dictator, Saddam Hussein, during the 2003 US invasion of the Muslim country.

Both sides are working on a series of plans to take wide strides in expanding their ties.

In a relevant event late 2012, Iranian and Iraqi Red Crescent Societies agreed to build two well-equipped and specialized hospitals in the holy cities of Karbala and Najaf.

“According to a Memorandum of Understanding signed with Iraq’s Red Crescent Society, the Iraqis agreed to supply the land for the construction of the hospital in Karbala which will be specialized in ophthalmology and eye diseases and Iran will be responsible for its construction,” Ali Heydari, an official of the Iranian Red Crescent Society, told FNA at the time.

He said in November 2012 that the hospital in Karbala would be constructed in the next 18 months.

Heydari said that the Iranian and Iraqi red crescent societies will also cooperate in the construction of a second hospital in Iraq’s holy city of Najaf which will be specialized in dialyze and kidney diseases.
