Prospects of Iran-P5+1 talks vague: Sources close to Iran

The sources cast doubt about the prospects of the talks if the P5+1 rejects a comprehensive package of proposals offered to the group by Iran on Wednesday.

Iran made an announcement on Wednesday, saying that it offered a comprehensive package to the five permanent members of the UN Security Council plus Germany (P5+1).

According to sources close to the Iranian negotiating team, the Islamic Republic has not shifted its principled positions.

Earlier reports said the P5+1 members — China, Russia, Britain, France, and the US plus Germany — are divided as they seek a response to Tehran’s comprehensive package of proposals.

Iran and the P5+1 wrapped up the first session of talks in the Iraqi capital on Wednesday, and started the second round of talks on Thursday.

The negotiations are aimed at resolving a standoff over a host of issues including Tehran’s nuclear energy program.
