Protesters decry US support for Israel

Hundreds have gathered in front of the White House, protesting against Washington’s support for Tel Aviv, following the deadly Israeli attack on the Gaza-bound Freedom Flotilla.

Protesters shouted “free free Palestine” and held signs calling for the US to end its aid to Israel, Reuters reported on Friday.

Washington, Tel Aviv’s closest ally, has merely said that it regretted the “loss of life,” stopping short of condemning the fatal attack.

The Freedom Flotilla was carrying 10,000 tons of relief aid for the Gaza Strip, which has spent the last three years under a crippling Israeli-imposed blockade.

The Israeli military attacked the aid convoy, in international waters, in the Mediterranean Sea, early on May 31 killing at least 9 people and injuring about 50 others.

The incident drew international outrage and protesters took to the streets in major cities across the world to condemn the assault.

Israel, however, attacked another Gaza-bound aid ship, the MV Rachel Corrie, on Saturday.
