Protests break out in Asia over Great Satan US Qur’an desecration

Protesters have taken to the streets in Pakistan, Malaysia and Bangladesh to voice their outrage over the burning of the Holy Qur’an by the US soldiers in Afghanistan.

A massive demonstration was held on Friday in Pakistan’s Peshawar where angry protesters denounced the desecration of the Muslim holy book.

They set fire to an effigy of the US President Barack Obama and shouted anti-US slogans.

Pakistan has witnessed continued protests against the Qur’an burning while the Islamabad government has already condemned the move as irresponsible and reprehensible.

In Malaysia, people demonstrated outside the US Embassy in the capital, Kuala Lumpur. They carried banners that read “Respect Quran” and “Damn You, US Army,” and shouted other anti-US slogans.

Malaysians denounced the sacrilege of the holy book and demanded that the United States prevents the repetition of the incident.

Another similar protest was held in Dhaka, the capital of Bangladesh.

On February 20, US soldiers burned the copies of the Holy Qur’an and other Islamic reading materials at the US-run Bagram Airbase, southeast of the city of Charikar in the Afghan province of Parwan.

US President Barack Obama has sent a letter to his Afghan counterpart Karzai, apologizing for the burning of copies of the Holy Qur’an by American forces in Afghanistan.

Obama claimed that the incident, which has sparked angry protests against the US and NATO forces in Afghanistan, was not intentional.
