Qatar supports Iran’s nuclear rights: FM

Qatari Foreign Minister Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah says his country supports Iran’s right to use civilian nuclear technology.
In a Sunday meeting with Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Arab and African Affairs Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, who is on an official visit to Qatar, Khalid bin Mohammad Al Attiyah said Doha has always supported Tehran’s right to civilian nuclear energy.
Iran’s positive approach toward the Persian Gulf littoral states has provided numerous opportunities, said the Qatari official.
Al Attiyah further called for the enhancement of bilateral ties between Tehran and Doha and expressed hope he could travel to Tehran in the near future.
Amir-Abdollahian, for his part, said relations between Tehran and the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) states are further developing.
The Iranian official also said the formation of a joint political committee is on the agenda of both countries, adding bilateral consultations play a key role in the settlement of regional crises.
He described extremism in the region as a hindrance to progress and collective security, expressing hope for the further enhancement of Tehran-Doha relations.
Earlier on Sunday, Amir-Abdollahian also sat down with Qatari Assistant for Foreign Affairs Mohamed bin Abdullah al-Rumaih and expressed Tehran’s readiness to expand political and economic cooperation with Doha.
