Qods Day ‘platform’ for Palestine justice, says UK journalist

It is vital for people to keep up their activism inside and out of Zionist Israel to demand justice for the Palestinians, says British journalist and broadcaster Yvonne Ridley.
“Al Qods Day presents the perfect platform to do this,” Ridley said, as pro-Palestinian groups gathered with peace organisations and others for the annual march in London to Trafalgar Square on Sunday.

“In a few years time people will ask about the Zionist State as they do about Apartheid South Africa. They will ask: ‘Did this system really exist and why was it tolerated for so long?’” she said.

Rallies have been held in London annually and elsewhere around the world since 1980 after the late Imam Khomeini designated the last Friday of the holy fasting month of Ramadan as Qods Day to express solidarity with Palestinians.

In an interview with IRNA, Ridley said that in the intervening 31 years, the plight of Palestinians under Zionist Israeli military occupation had “deteriorated dramatically.”

“Justice is still not delivered to the Palestinian people and if it was down to the politicians it would remain an elusive goal as most are in the pay of the Zionist lobby,” she said.

“The politicians have delivered nothing – just look at the ever-shrinking map of Palestine for evidence of that.”

Despite the reluctance by the international community to intervene, the British journalist believed that there was a growing public momentum around the world demanding justice, including for the Palestinian people.

“The good news is that ordinary people around the world, who are too many in number to be bribed, can see for themselves the reality of what is happening to the Palestinian people.”

“Their boycotts and activism is bringing the Zionist machine to a grinding halt and all this additional pressure is having a domino effect on the broken economy of Israel which cannot survive without huge cash injections from the USA,” she said.

Ridley said if the politicians do not wake up and demand Palestinian statehood next month at the UN General Assembly “there will be a backlash and when the people begin to lead the leaders must follow or they will become irrelevant.”

“Trust in politicians is, universally, at an all time low these days but the desire for justice and equality is being demanded by ordinary citizens of the world,” she said.
