Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani welcomed unity week to bolster solidarity between Shiites and Shunnis.
“The Unity Week should be taken as invaluable initiative for bolstering solidarity between the Shia-Sunni Muslims and resolving the unresolved disputes in the World of Muslim,” underlined Chairman of the Expediency Council Akbar Hashemi Rafsanjani, reported Taqrib News Agency (TNA).

Making his remarks in a message addressed to a ceremony of Unity Week marking birth anniversary of holy prophet Mohammad (PBUH), Rafsanjani pointed out, “Peaceful co-existence between Shia and Sunni in Turkmen Sahra should teach a lesson for all Muslims in the world countries where all with reserving their religious beliefs, spare no efforts to promote Islamic principles.”

“The ignorant groups under various names such as Daesh, – Boko Haram, al-Qaeda and a lot more … have depicted a hostile image of Islam which run counter to the true preaching of Islam and the Great Prophet,” the Chairman of the Expediency Council said.

Iran celebrates the Unity Week of Shia and Sunni Muslims to observe the one-week gap between recognition of date of bithday of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) by the Shia Muslims and the Sunni Muslims.

The Islamic Unity Week (between 12-17th Rabiul Awwal) and the occasion of the Birth Anniversary of Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) are annually celebrated by all Muslims around the globe.

Coincided with the Islamic Unity Week, the 29th International Islamic Unity Conference will be inaugurated at the Islamic Summit Hall in Tehran on Sunday, Dec. 27 with prominent religious clerics and thinkers in attendance.
