Red Cross chief heads to Damascus for talks with Assad

Peter Maurer, head of the International Red Cross (ICRC), will begin his three-day visit to Syria on Monday to discuss the humanitarian crisis in the country with President Bashar al-Assad.

“Talks will mainly tackle the rapidly deteriorating humanitarian situation and the difficulties faced by the ICRC and the Syrian Arab Red Crescent as they attempt to reach people affected by the armed conflicts,” an ICRC statement said.
