Iranian President Hassan Rouhani has stressed the need for the establishment of security in the Persian Gulf region through collective efforts by all countries in the Middle East.

“The security of the sensitive Persian Gulf region can only be ensured through the assistance and cooperation of all regional countries; and Iran pursues a policy of establishing peace, stability and assistance to the fleet of other countries in the sea,” Rouhani said in the southern Iranian port city of Bandar Abbas on Thursday.

He added that the Islamic Republic of Iran is one of the few countries that are independently present in far-flung and pirate-infested waters in order to provide maritime security for merchant vessels.

In line with international efforts to combat piracy, the Iranian Navy has also been conducting anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf of Aden since November 2008 to safeguard the vessels involved in maritime trade, especially the ships and oil tankers owned or leased by Iran.

Rouhani further described the disruption of power balance, peace and stability in the region as the factors behind the outbreak of war, stating that Iranian Armed Forces are at the apex of their preparedness to establish the power balance in the Middle East.

The Iranian chief executive also hailed the capability of Iranian forces in the production of various kinds of military hardware, noting that the Iranian Armed Forces are the messengers of peace and friendship to other countries.

In recent years, Iran has made great achievements in its defense sector and attained self-sufficiency in producing essential military equipment and systems.

The Islamic Republic has held several military drills to enhance the defense capabilities of its Armed Forces and to test modern military tactics and equipment.

Iran has repeatedly said its military might poses no threat to other countries, insisting that its defense doctrine is based on deterrence.
