‘Regional states can solve own problems’

Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad says regional countries can resolve their problems through a pragmatic approach and without interference of Western countries.

In a meeting with visiting Emir of Qatar Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani in the capital Tehran on Thursday, President Ahmadinejad said that Tehran and Doha enjoy good relations, and have similar areas of interest on regional and international issues, IRNA reported.

These common stances are of great benefit to the Middle East region as well as Muslim nations, he pointed out.

The Iranian chief executive also stressed that regional states can solve their problems by means of Islamic and humane solutions, as foreign intervention complicates the situation on the ground.

Historical experience shows that foreigners only consider their own interests, and have no respect or value for the Middle Eastern states, he said.

President Ahmadinejad also called for full implementation of agreements already signed between Tehran and Doha.

The Qatari emir, for his part, denounced involvement of certain Arab countries in the internal affairs of regional states.

He said that those who cannot respond to their nations’ public demands, and only seek to satisfy the interests of outsiders steer their nations and the region to insecurity.

The senior Qatari official, meanwhile, described close cooperation among regional states as the prelude to durable stability and development across the Middle East.
