Resisting Israel, right of Palestinians: Iraqi envoy to Baku

Iraq’s ambassador to Azerbaijan has hailed the victory of the Palestinian resistance movement over Israel in the recent Israeli war on the Gaza Strip, saying the Palestinians have a right to resist the Tel Aviv regime.

“Resisting the Israeli regime is the right of the Palestinian nation,” Haydar al-Barrak said in an interview with the Islamic Republic of Iran’s Broadcasting (IRIB).

On November 14, the Israeli regime launched a deadly offensive on the blockaded Gaza Strip, which killed more than 160 Palestinians and injured some 1,200 others.

In retaliation, Palestinian resistance fighters fired rockets and missiles into the Israeli cities, killing at least five Israelis.

Last Wednesday, Egypt announced that the Israeli regime and the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas had reached a ceasefire agreement.

Referring to the Egyptian-brokered ceasefire, the Iraqi ambassador said, “If they (the Palestinians) had not responded to the [Israeli] aggression, the Israeli regime would not have agreed to the ceasefire.”

Israel has launched several wars on the besieged Gaza Strip and has invaded other Islamic countries, too, he noted, adding that international organizations such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC), the Arab League and the United Nations should take serious measures to stop Israel’s aggression.

The Iraqi envoy also voiced Baghdad’s support for the Palestinians.

Al-Barrak added that Iraq will have no diplomatic and economic relationships with the Tel Aviv regime as long as the Zionist regime violates the rights of the Palestinians.
