Retaking Idlib is top priority for Syrian government – report

Retaking the Idlib province is a top priority for the Syrian government, Foreign Minister Walid Al-Mu’allem said on Monday.

Speaking at the Damascus University auditorium, Al-Mu’allem told the crowd that “our priority is liberating Idlib from terrorism.”

Al-Mu’allem said that if Damascus can get rid of the terrorists in Idlib through dialogue, they will take this route in order to avoid bloodshed.

Furthermore, Al-Mu’allem did acknowledge that there were efforts by their Russian allies to achieve a peaceful solution to the Idlib dilemma.

The Idlib province is mostly under the control of many rebel parties, including the Free Syrian Army (FSA), Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham, and Harakat Ahrar Al-Sham.
