RIPI Great Success in Reservoir Simulators

Head of the modeling group at the Research Institute of Petroleum Industry (RIPI) said the first in-house Pars reservoir simulator has been produced by RIPI experts and is ready for commercial use.

Seyyed Ali Mousavi Dehghani told the oil ministry’s website that it is for the first time that this professional software is being designed and produced at home, adding the software has been designed and produced by RIPI experts in three phases since 2006.

“During the first phase PRS black oil simulator was produced and developed with participation of a foreign company and in the second phase a project was defined for final development of the software in composition of modeling sector that took two years,” he said.

“By production of in-house Pars reservoir simulator, RIPI plans to develop a software compatible with Iran’s reservoirs,” Dehghani noted.

He said that Pars oil and Gas Company (POGC) laid the groundwork for commercialization of the software via providing financial and technical support, adding that in the third phase RIPI succeeded in correcting and finalizing the software based on the needs of POGC’s needs by offering 8 versions of the product.

In-house Pars reservoir simulator is a key software in management of reservoirs, the official said, adding lack of technical conformity between existing software in the market and specifications of the country’s reservoirs were the main reason behind localization of the product.

High cost of providing, training and supporting the software were another reasons behind producing the software inside the country which has led to considerable foreign exchange saving.

Elsewhere in his remarks, the RIPI official said in-house Pars reservoir simulator as the first national reservoir software has been tested by POGC and is available for applicants.

Dehghani said stressing the know-how exchange, achieving the required skills, boosting domestic capabilities, independent development and support of the software were among the other targets of producing the software.
