Rocket attack damages US-led base in southern Afghanistan
A US-led military base has been heavily damaged in a rocket attack that took place in southern Afghanistan, reports say.

According to local sources, the attack caused serious damages to the heavily-fortified Camp Bastion military base in the war-wracked country’s southern province of Helmand on Thursday night.

However, foreign forces have not reported any casualties due to the incident.

The military base reportedly accommodates thousands of British, US, Danish and Estonian troops.

No group has claimed responsibility of the attack so far.

The US led the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan under the pretext of fighting the Taliban and al-Qaeda militants in the country.

The offensive removed the Taliban from power, but after 11 years, insecurity remains in the country despite the presence of many US-led forces.

The US-led war in Afghanistan, which has caused record-high civilian and military casualties, has become the longest military conflict in American history.
