Rohani vows to revive Iran’s economy in short time

hbeig20130528215634773Presidential candidate Hassan Rohani says he will restore stability to Iran’s economy in a short period of time if elected president.

“In addition to plans for solving economic, social, and cultural problems as well as the problems in domestic and foreign policies, I have short-term plans [for implementation] in one month and 100 days,” Rohani said in a televised speech on Tuesday.

The reformist candidate said through cooperation and consultation with the country’s elite, universities and experts, his future administration will breathe new life into the national economy.

Blaming the current administration and management reshuffles for the economic status quo, Rohani said the Central Bank of Iran will regain its independence to boost domestic production, and that he will revive two dissolved state bodies — the Planning and Budget Organization, and the Management and Planning Organization.

The director of the Strategic Research Center of the Expediency Council also stated that the Money and Credit Council, and “the Council of Economy, which seemingly convened recently after almost five years, will recover their strength.”

In Iran’s June 14 presidential election, Rohani will be competing against Supreme National Security Council Secretary Saeed Jalili, MP Gholam-Ali Haddad-Adel, Expediency Council Secretary Mohsen Rezaei, former First Vice President Mohammad-Reza Aref, Tehran Mayor Mohammad-Baqer Qalibaf, former Foreign Minister Ali-Akbar Velayati, and former Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Gharazi.

The president of Iran is elected for a four-year term in a national election, and the Guardian Council vets the candidates.
