Recent official figures have revealed that Romanians are being arrested at seven times the rate of British people in London.

According to the data released on Thursday, around 800 people from the Southeastern European country were detained in the British capital last month, the Daily Mail reported on Friday.

Many of the detentions were said to be related to a cashpoint fraud, which cost the United Kingdom an estimated £40 million in the first six months of this year alone.

The British police say for every 1,000 Romanians in London, 183 are arrested. The number compares to 26 Britons per 1,000.

This comes as a recent research has revealed that Asian people are more than 11 times more likely to be stopped at British airports and ports and questioned to determine if they are involved in terrorism than white people.

According to the study carried out by the non-departmental public body Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC), stereotyping rather than intelligence could be a major factor in the use of the powers in Britain under schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000

Schedule 7 of the Terrorism Act 2000 allows British officials to question traveler in order to find out whether they appear to be terrorists. Suspects have no right to remain silent or receive legal advice, and they may be detained for up to nine hours.

The EHRC experimental analysis further noted that black people were 6.3 times more likely to be stopped, and people of mixed ethnicity were 3.6 times more likely to be stopped.

Moreover, Pakistani nationals were 52 times more likely to be stopped than white people, 135 times more likely to be questioned and examined for more than an hour, and 154 times more likely to be detained.

Last month, Britain’s Ministry of Justice announced that those who were black are three times more likely to be arrested in England and Wales than white people.

Those who are mixed race are twice as likely as white people to be detained.
