“The president of the Islamic Republic of Iran will make an official visit to Turkey within the next one or two months,” Mohammad Javad Zarif told reporters in a joint press conference with his Turkish counterpart Ahmet Davutoglu on Friday in the Turkish city of Van.

He pointed to a recent visit by Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan to Tehran and added the two countries enjoy very good relations.

The Turkish premier paid an official visit to Tehran at the head of a high-ranking delegation on January 28 and discussed key bilateral and regional issues with senior Iranian officials.

The Turkish foreign minister, for his part, said Tehran and Ankara have taken important steps towards constructing railways.

Turkey intends to expand the East-West and North-South corridors in cooperation with Iran, Davutoglu said, adding infrastructural work is currently underway.

The Iranian foreign minister arrived in Turkey on Friday at the head of a delegation to attend the 3rd trilateral meeting with his Turkish and Azeri counterparts.

The first tripartite meeting between the foreign ministers of Iran, Turkey and Azerbaijan Republic was held in the northwestern Iranian city of Orumiyeh, in April 2011.

A second meeting was held in the Azeri city of Nakhichevan in March 2012 in order to discuss tripartite cooperation between the neighboring countries in the fields of energy, transportation and trade as well as a joint campaign against terrorism, smuggling and organized crime.
