Rouhani Ends Oman Visit: Region Tensions to be Solved through Dialogue

Iranian president Hasan Rouhani concluded his visit to Oman on Thursday in which he stressed development of relations between the two countries in all fields and expressed that regional tensions should be solved through dialogue.

Rouhani, QaboosPresident Rouhani and the king of Oman, Sultan Qaboos, stressed that development of relations between the two countries will include energy, shipping, customs affairs, financial issues, environment, tourism and maintaining security of the Strait of Hormuz.

This comes after President Rouhani have told reporters at the airport, prior to his departure, that during his two-day visit to Oman he is to follow up the implementation process of the previous agreements signed during the visit of Sultan Qaboos to Tehran.

Iranian gas Export Contract

Iran and Oman signed a contract on Wednesday to supply Oman with natural Iranian gas, the Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) reported.

Iranˈs Oil minister Bijan Namdar Zangeneh told reporters that the contract is a result of long talks and meetings held with his Omani counterpart.

During the visit to Tehran by Oman’s Sultan Qaboos seven months ago, the two countries drafted the agreement to export Iranian gas to Oman, Zangeneh said.

Regional Security Equal to National Security

In a meeting with Oman’s university students and academics on Thursday, President Rouhani urged regional states to consider regional security equal to their own security in order to reach complete development.

Rouhani also met Iranian and Omani businessmen on Thursday during his visit and indicated that friendship will benefit the entire region and the whole world as well.

“Iran offers a hand of friendship and brotherhood to all regional states including those in the Persian Gulf,” Rouhani noted. The Iranian government is also seeking constructive interactions with countries around the world, he added.

It is noteworthy that President Rouhani was officially welcomed by Omani Sultan Qaboos upon arrival in Al Alam Palace in the Omani capital on Wednesday on a two-day official visit.
