Rouhani Urges Enhancing Cooperation with Lebanon, Ghana, North Korea

13920419000356_PhotoIIranian President-elect Hassan Rouhani said he plans to deepen Iran’s cooperation with Lebanon, Ghana and North Korea during his presidency.
Rouhani made the call in separate messages to Lebanese President Michel Suleiman, President of South Korea’s Supreme People’s Assembly (SPA) Presidium Kim Yong Nam and Ghana’s President John Dramani Mahama on Tuesday, in which he thanked them for congratulating him on his victory in June 14 election.

In his messages, Rouhani expressed the hope that cooperation between Iran and the aforementioned countries would increase during his presidency.

In his message to the Lebanese president, Rouhani pointed to the current status of Tehran-Beirut relations, and said, “The old and friendly relations between Iran and Lebanon … are based on cultural bonds and the two countries have always been improving and deepening their ties.”

Iran and Lebanon enjoy cordial relations and have further expanded these ties in recent years.

The two sides have exchanged several delegations of high-ranking officials in the last three years.

Rouhani won Iran’s presidential election in June. From a total number of 36,704,156 ballots cast in the election, Rouhani won 18,613,329 votes.

The Interior Ministry’s election headquarters said turnout among the electorate was 72.7 percent.
