S. Arabia invites Ahmadinejad to Mecca summit

The Saudi Arabian government has invited President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad to an emergency Islamic summit in Mecca to be held in mid August.

Talking to IRNA, Mohammad Sheikhan caretaker of Information and Communication Center said the Saudi Arabian ambassador to Tehran has presented the President’s official invitation.
He said the President has not yet decided to attend the event, adding that the decision is under study.
Sheikhan said the latest regional developments will be reviewed during the summit.
Meanwhile, Foreign Ministry spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast announced on July 24 that if an extraordinary summit of Muslim leaders is to be held in Mecca, the crisis in Bahrain should be top of the agenda.
According to reports, Saudi King Abdullah had called for an emergency Islamic summit in Mecca on August 14 and 15 to address risks of “sedition” threatening Muslim countries.
