Salehi offers condolences to Russia

Iran’s caretaker Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi has expressed condolences over the death of dozens of people who were killed in a recent terrorist attack in the Russian capital, Moscow.

At least 35 people lost their lives and 180 others were injured after a massive explosion ripped through the arrival gates of Domodedovo Airport — Russia’s most crowded international airport — on Monday.

In a message to Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov on Tuesday, Salehi expressed his resentment over the bloody attack and offered his condolences to the Russian nation and government.

Earlier, Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad sent condolences to his counterpart Dmitry Medvedev over the tragic event.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a victim of terrorist attacks, always condemns such brutal terrorist actions, President Ahmadinejad said in his message on Tuesday.

No group or individual has claimed responsibility for the deadly attack yet, but some reports have pinned the blame on separatists fighting guerilla wars against Russia in the North Caucasus region.

The airport is 40 km (25 miles) south-east of the city center, and is popular with foreign workers and tourists flying into the city.

Medvedev has pledged to launch an investigation into the terrorist attack. He said obviously there have been lapses as appropriate legislation was passed after similar events, a Press TV correspondent in Moscow reported early on Tuesday.
