Salehi Opens 2nd Day of Syrian National Dialogue in Tehran

The second day of meeting on Syrian National Dialogue opened behind the closed doors in Tehran on Monday where all Syrian groups are set to express their point of views “transparently”.

The meeting is chaired by the Iranian Foreign Minister Ali Akbar Salehi. According to Salehi, the Tehran meeting on Syria was planned for one day; however, it continued for the second day as it was enthusiastically welcomed by the participants.

The Syrian National Dialogue carries the motto ˈNo to Violence, Yes to Democracy.ˈ

During the first day of the meeting, some 37 Syrian officials and members of the opposition groups stressed the need to continue negotiations and fight foreign meddling in the Syrian internal affairs.

They also urged an end to the ongoing violence in Syria as well as respect for independence and territorial integrity of that country.

“Future events will indicate that the Islamic Republic of Iran was only determined to settle the Syrian crisis and it expected nothing from holding such a meeting in Tehran”, the Iranian foreign minister said.

Over 200 Syrian politicians and representatives from the political parties in that country as well as President Bashar al-Assadˈs envoys are attending the Tehran meeting.

On Sunday, Salehi said that the Islamic Republic does not intend to interfere in Syria’s domestic affairs. “As the Islamic Republic of Iran has reiterated many times before, today we once again emphasize that we seek a peaceful resolution to the Syrian crisis without interference of foreign forces,” Salehi added.
