International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) says international sanctions imposed on Iran have failed to affect the country’s nuclear energy program, Reuters reports.

The IAEA director general, Yukiya Amano, said on Monday that international sanctions do not seem to be slowing down Iran’s nuclear energy program as Tehran is making “steady progress” in developing nuclear energy activities.

The UN nuclear agency chief added that he remained committed to dialogue with Iran and noted that no new meeting had yet been set after 10 rounds of talks since early 2012.

On May 15, Iran and the IAEA wrapped up their latest round of talks on the Islamic Republic’s nuclear energy program in Vienna, Austria, with the Agency failing to provide any evidence on a potential diversion in the Islamic Republic’s nuclear activities.

The IAEA has expressed dissatisfaction with the negotiations that have been going on for over a year to find a solution to the outstanding issues, saying the talks “are going around in circles.”

The United States, Israel and some of their allies falsely claim that Iran is pursuing non-civilian objectives in its nuclear energy program, with the US and the European Union using the claim as a pretext to impose illegal sanctions against Iran.

Tehran rejects the allegation over its nuclear energy activities, maintaining that as a committed signatory to the Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the IAEA, it has the right to use nuclear technology for peaceful purposes.

In addition, the IAEA has conducted numerous inspections of Iran’s nuclear facilities but has never found any evidence showing that Iran’s civilian nuclear program has been diverted to non-civilian purposes.
