Sanctions hastens Iran’s progress

Vice Speaker of the Iranian Parliament (Majlis) Shahabeddin Sadr says sanctions and international pressure provide Iran with more opportunities for progress.

“The repeated adoption of resolutions will not weaken the Iranian nation’s resolve in defending the country and protecting its dignity in the world,” Sadr told a conference in Iran’s northern Mazandaran Province on Monday.

“When it comes to Islam and the [Islamic] Revolution, the Iranian nation will rise [in their defense],” ISNA quoted Sadr as saying.

Sadr expounded on the achievements made by Iran during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war.

“During the imposed war, the enemy tried to halt the [Islamic] Revolution, but because of the resolve, willpower and faith and of the Muslin nation of Iran, the war became an opportunity for progress,” he added.

Following the adoption of the June 9 UN Security Council sanctions resolution against Iran, the US and the European Union imposed additional unilateral sanctions on the Islamic Republic over its nuclear program.

The US, which possesses thousands of nuclear weaponary and has used them in the past killing nearly 200,000 people in Japan, accuses Iran of pursuing a military nuclear program.

Tehran rejects the allegations, arguing that as a signatory to the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty and a member of the International Atomic Energy Agency, it has the right to use nuclear technology.
