Sanctions have made Iran stronger

An Iranian lawmaker says the sanctions that could bring other countries to their knees have only made Iran stronger over the past three decades.

“It has been nearly 30 years that Iran has been under the unilateral economic sanctions imposed by world powers and particularly Western countries,” Hossein Naqavi Hosseini told Fars News Agency on Sunday.

He added that while each one of the sanctions slapped on Iran could have dealt a mortal blow to most countries, Iranians have proven over the past three decades that by “relying on their capabilities they cab turn sanctions into opportunities and easily overcome the biased policies of the enemies.”

Hosseini pointed to the favorable economic climate in Iran and said the stage has been set to attract investment, expand economic activities and export expertise.

Iranian officials say that the country’s economy continues to show growth despite sanctions. The Iranian oil minister recently announced that despite sanctions, the country is expected to turn into a gasoline exporter in the near future.
