Sanctions meant to stop Iran progress

Iran’s president says Western threats and sanctions are aimed at preventing the country from turning into an economic and industrial heavyweight.

“The Western and US sanctions and threats are not only aimed at putting the brakes on Iran’s progress in nuclear technology, but come to keep Iran from becoming an economic and industrial power”, Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was quoted by IRNA as saying in a ceremony in the city of Natanz in the central Iranian province of Isfahan on Monday.

“But they are really mistaken”, added President Ahmadinejad who was on hand for the opening of phase three of a major steel complex.

“Iran will not only conquer the peaks of progress, but serve as a role model for other nations”, the president further said.

“The Iranian nation is about to take a giant step and unleash its unflagging energy to secure development and progress on different fronts”, said Ahmadinejad.

“The country’s officials are standing up to bullying powers, and that’s what the Iranian nation wants”, President Ahmadinejad said.

Western economies are in the hands of a rich few who only seek to make more profit, added the president.

He underscored the Iranian people can play a pivotal role in national economic development.

President Ahmadinejad then appreciated efforts by local industrialists and all contributors to the nation’s industrial development.
