Sanctions should be eliminated: Iran MP

678974_thum The head of Iran’s Majlis (Parliament) National Security and Foreign Policy Commission says if Iran stops 20% enrichment process, all sanctions should be eliminated.
Alaeddin Boroujerdi said that the easing gold and other goods imports could not be a good offer to stop 20% enrichment.

He told Al-Alam News that if Iran is to stop the 20% enrichment process, we have to see what West is offering in return. “Although the Supreme National Security Council is the authority to make decisions on the issue, Majlis interfere sometimes, as needed,” he added, pointing to Majlis decision last year when it had not allowed the government to continue commitment to additional protocol.

“I believe that West should annul all sanctions if we are to stop the 20% enrichment process. They [West] should not expect Iran to stops 20% enrichment process, while the West continues its sanctions. Because it is completely ludicrous,” he asserted.

Boroujerdi said that realistic behavior by 5+1 group would help negotiation success. “They should accept the realities. Today, Iran is not the Iran when Jack Straw and Fischer would have said that they would not allow Iran to have even two centrifuge facilities,” he added.

He also asserted that Iran’s missile capabilities was zero during imposed war by Iraq, but now “ it is a missile power,” and that “ if they do not act realistically, and look down on Iran from above, for sure, negotiations will fail.”

The Leader’s decree is the Rubicon

Boroujerdi also pointed to the Supreme Leader’s decree (Fatwa) on the prohibition of building and preserving nuclear weapons as a red line for the Islamic Republic of Iran. “We have been committed to NPT regulations, and emphasize Ayatollah Khamenei’s decree, and will not build atomic bomb, but we will remain a serious opponent of the lethal weapon around the world,” he said.

“We believe that even a single nuclear bomb is a threat to global peace, and it is obvious why; because another Truman would order throwing the bomb again,” he added.

“Psychologically, the international public is concerned about Hiroshima and Nagasaki, and they [nuclear weapons] should be eliminated,” he believed.
