In another move against Muslims in the United States, a gun shop in Florida has offered discount with the promotional code “Muslim,” saying Americans need guns to “combat Islam.”

Andrew Hallinan, the gun shop owner, offered customers $25 off their purchase to mark the anniversary of the September 11, 2001 attacks.

“In order for us to combat Islam, I need to put guns in their hand,” he said.

He announced on Twitter that his shop would be giving the discount on guns, as well as a free car wash and drink, to any customer who entered the code online.

Critics, however, called him a “hate profiteer” who is trying to make a profit from the 9/11 tragedy.

In July, Hallinan declared his gun shop a “Muslim-free zone.” He also offered free concealed-carry classes and shooting range visits, encouraging all non-Muslims in his community to “take this opportunity to get armed, get trained and carry daily.”

“The only way you can calm that violence is to train and arm people against the bad guys,” said Hallinan. “My shooting range is open to the public.”

The Council on American Islamic Relations (CAIR) filed a lawsuit against Hallinan, arguing that he was discriminating against Muslims’ freedom of religion.

“American Muslims have a right to browse and purchase guns, take classes on gun safety and shoot guns at a range without having to be profiled and discriminated. Such discrimination is not only illegal, it is bad for our country and makes us less safe and less free,” wrote CAIR Florida chief executive director Hassan Shibly.

Hallinan, however said, “CAIR has a history of supporting terror and getting their members not to talk to the FBI. They’re some bad dudes.”

Hate crimes against Muslims soared after the 9/11 attacks in the US and remain high 14 years later.

Anti-Muslim crimes have made up about 13 to 14 percent of hate crimes committed in the United States over the past few years, according to FBI data.

About 4.5 million firearms are sold annually in the country at a cost of 2 to 3 billion dollars.
