Iraqi Vice President Nouri al-Maliki says the Al Saud regime must be placed in the international community’s custody for pursuing wrong policies and supporting terrorism.

In an interview with an Iraqi satellite channel on Wednesday, Maliki described Saudi Arabia as the breeding ground of terrorism, saying Takfir extremism is rooted in the Wahabbi ideology in the Saudi kingdom.

Maliki, a former Iraqi prime minister, said the international community should intervene to prevent the spread of extremist ideologies emanating from Saudi Arabia and put the monarchy under global supervision.

Otherwise, Maliki said, terrorism will continue to grow, fed by Saudi petrodollars.

In similar remarks last November, Maliki called the “extremist and racist” ideology of Saudi Wahhabis as the root cause of ISIL Takfiri militants, adding that Takfiri terrorist groups like ISIL, which currently controls swathes of land in Iraq and Syria, are the brainchild of Saudi Wahhabis.

For more than a year, Iraq has been grappling with a foreign-backed militancy in its western and northern territories.

Iraqi armed forces and volunteer fighters have managed to purge ISIL militants from some key regions, although attacks by the Takfiri group have continued unabated in Baghdad and elsewhere in the Arab country.
