Saudi Arabia preacher calls for restraint

A Saudi preacher from the Islamic Ummah party, Sheikh Salman al-Awadh urged the authorities in Saudi Arabia to restraint from violence against members of the opposition, warning repression will only radicalize calls for reforms in the kingdom…
The part wrote in a statement “words are powerful and tyranny does not understand words”, directly referring to Minister of Interior Mohammed bin Nayef’s tough stance on the opposition.

Sheikh Salman explained that reforms would help alleviate some of Saudi Arabia’s social issues, such as poverty and unemployment while providing people a political outlet in which they will be able to peacefully express their opinions.

The cleric hailed the benefit of having an open and tolerant society where all citizens stand equal in their rights and responsibilities, stressing such as system will help promote regional stability as well as friendship.

Moreover, Sheikh Salman strongly renounced any form of violence, saying repression would only radicalize the issues by spurring anger and resentment throughout society.
