Saudi Arabia and South Korea have inked a protocol to cooperate in peaceful nuclear energy sector, an Arab news website says.

According to a report published by the Arabic-language Panorama al-Sharq al-Awsat news website on Wednesday, the deal was signed between Saudi Arabia’s King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy and South Korea’s Atomic Energy Research Institute.

The agreement focuses on mutual cooperation between Saudi Arabia and South Korea for using peaceful nuclear energy.

It also focuses on research and establishment of a nuclear city in Saudi Arabia which can guarantee the progress of the oil-rich kingdom in using the atomic energy.

South Korea’s Atomic Energy Research Institute has achieved self-reliance in nuclear core technologies.

Established in 1959, the institute also carries out research studies in various fields relating to medical and industrial applications of nuclear energy.

Over the past 50 years, the research-oriented institute has made momentous contributions to South Korea’s nuclear technology development.
