‘Blair in no position to comment on Iran’

The Islamic Republic of Iran has censured former British Prime Minister Tony Blair over his call for regime change in Iran.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ramin Mehmanparast said on Saturday that Blair is in no position to make such comments about the Islamic Republic, the Fars news agency reported.

The Iranian official said it would be better for Blair to talk about the wrong policies adopted during his premiership rather than making “interfering remarks about other countries.”

Mehmanparast also urged Blair to explain the atrocities committed by British soldiers in Iraq and other parts of the world.

In an interview with The Times of London published on Friday, Blair, who served as the British prime minister from 1997 to 2007, expressed support for regime change in Iran and warned about Tehran’s nuclear energy program.

“Regime change in Tehran would immediately make me significantly more optimistic about the whole of the region,” Blair said.

Earlier in the day, IRIB World Service Director Mohammad Sarafraz said that the United Kingdom created the Taliban of Afghanistan.
