Search for missing Malaysian jet resumes in Indian Ocean

International rescue teams have resumed the search for the missing Malaysian jet after weather improved in the Indian Ocean.

Some 12 aircrafts from Australia, the United States, China, Japan and South Korea began the operation some 2,500 km southwest of the Australian city of Perth on Wednesday in search of potential debris.

“Today’s search is split into three areas within the same proximity, covering a cumulative 80,000 square kilometers,” said the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA).

Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott also told reporters that they will continue the search “until there is absolutely no hope of finding anything.”

“Plainly, there is quite a bit of debris in this part of the southern Indian Ocean. We’ve photographed it on a number of occasions now,” he added.

The hunt for the wreckage of the Malaysian plane was halted on Tuesday due to bad weather. The rescuers are looking for two objects spotted by satellite images in the Indian Ocean.

Flight MH370 with 239 passengers and crew vanished from radar screens early on March 8, less than an hour after taking off from Kuala Lumpur on a scheduled flight to Beijing.

On Monday, Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak announced that the missing plane had crashed into the Indian Ocean and that all people on board had been killed. Two-thirds of those on board were Chinese nationals.
