Syrian sources confirmed that Israel has launched an attack on a military airport near Damascus.

Syrian State TV said that al-Mezzeh military air facility was struck several times near the Syrian capital of Damascus.

Israeli rockets took aim at an ammunition depot, producing an enormous explosion, according to the state TV.

The airport is a major strategic asset used by Syrian elites, military officials and troops as a transit complex.

The Syrian government also used the airport as a military outpost to launch artillery shells at former terrorist-held areas in the suburbs of Damascus.

Following the attacks, a Syrian Army spokesman warned that Israel would face repercussions of the “flagrant” attack on the al-Mezzeh military airport.

A spokesman was also quoted on the state TV as saying that the projectiles originated near Lake Tiberias in Northern Israel just after midnight.

Israel launched in Early Decembers a number of surface-to-surface missiles from inside the occupied territories to the West of Tall Abu al-Nada hill that landed around al-Mezzeh airport, West of Damascus, a military source said.

The source told SANA that the attack started fire at the site where the missiles hit, adding that no human casualties were reported.

Yet, the source underlined that these “desperate attempts of the Israeli enemy to support the terrorist groups and boost their morale would make us even more determined to cut off the hands of the terrorist agents of the Zionist entity, which should be held fully responsible for the repercussions and consequences of these criminal attacks”.

Syrian sources said that the attack against al-Mezzeh airport was launched by Israeli warplanes.

Al-Nashrah news website quoted unnamed Syrian sources as saying that the attacks targeted the airport’s runway and operations command center.

They added that the strikes caused fire and some damage.

Other sources also said that the Israeli fighter jets had targeted the operations center of the army’s 4th division at the airport.
