Senior Cleric Condemns Massacre of Innocent Muslims in Damascus Mosque

Ayatollah Nasser Makarem Shirazi, a senior Iranian religious leader, deplored the massacre of Muslims in a terrorist attack in a mosque in Damascus which he said was supported by the Turkish, Saudi and Qatari governments.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in a statement on Sunday condemned the terrorist bombing of Damascus Mosque which led to the death of Friday prayer leader along with 50 others and injury of 100 worshippers.

Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi in his statement took Turkish, Saudi and Qatari governments responsible for the heinous crime mass killing of Muslims and turning the Mosque to bloodbath in Damascus.

He called on the international community to seriously react to this terrorist action condemning the governments for abetting terrorism in Syria.

On Thursday, a suicide bomber blew himself up inside al-Iman Mosque in Damascus while President of the Levant Scholars’ Union Sheikh Mohammad Said Ramadan al-Bouti was lecturing tens of worshipers, killing 49 people and wounding 84 others.

Meantime, the Syrian government stressed that the deadly blast bore the hallmarks of al-Qaeda.

The terrorist act which targeted Sheikh Bouti bore the hallmarks of al-Qaeda and its allies, Syrian Foreign Ministry said Friday in a letter addressing the head of the UN Security Council and the UN Secretary General.

Also on Friday, the 15-member UNSC condemned the suicide bomb attack in Damascus, and expressed its sympathies and condolences to the victims’ families of the “heinous act.”
