Senior Iranian, Russian Officials Discuss Ways to Resolve Syrian Crisis

Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian and Special Representative of the Russian President for the Middle-East Mikhail Bogdanov conferred on diplomatic efforts to find a political solution to the current crisis in Syria.

During the meeting here in Tehran on Wednesday, Bogdanov said if foreign countries stop meddling in Syria, the crisis in the country can be resolved through dialogue.

The Russian official lauded Iran’s effective role in the stability and security of the region and regional developments.

He further reaffirmed Moscow’s unchanged, logical stance toward the Syria issue.

Amir Abdollahian, for his part, stressed Russia’s effective efforts to resolve the Syria crisis through political means, adding that the Islamic Republic is ready to cooperate with Russia in this regard.

Also on Wednesday, Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and the visiting Russian Vice-Speaker Elias Omakhanov exchanged views on issues of mutual interests as well as regional and international developments, the Syrian crisis in particular.

Larijani described Iran-Russia ties as “friendly”, and noted, “The two neighboring countries of Iran and Russia enjoy close relations and their common interests necessitate continued cooperation and consultations.”

He stressed existence of many common grounds for regional and international cooperation between Iran and Russia, specially on Syria, and warned, “Dangerous plots are underway to create long-term changes in the region and the trans-regional enemies of Iran and Russia are seeking adventurism and troublemaking.”

“This condition necessitates continued cooperation and consultations between the two countries,” Larijani underscored.

Iran and Russia have vast cooperation in different fields, specially in political and economic spheres.
