Senior commanders of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) offered their deep condolences over the martyrdom of Abu Muntadhar al-Muhamadawi, a top commander of Iraq’s Badr Brigade.
In separate messages released on Tuesday, IRGC Commander Major General Mohammad Ali Jafari and Commander of the IRGC Quds Force Major General Qassem Soleimani extended their condolences to the bereaved family of the Iraqi commander, who was martyred last week during operations to liberate ISIL-controlled Fallujah in Anbar province.
The IRGC commanders also attended a ceremony in Shahr-e-Rey, south of Tehran, in commemoration of the Iraqi commander on Tuesday evening.
The Badr Brigade came to prominence in 2014 fighting the Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) terrorist group in Iraq.

The Arab country has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by ISIL.
The ISIL militants made swift advances in much of northern and western Iraq over the last summer, after capturing large swaths of northern Syria.
However, a combination of concentrated attacks by the Iraqi military and the volunteer forces, who rushed to take arms after top Iraqi cleric Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani issued a fatwa calling for fight against the militants, have blunted the edge of the ISIL offensive.
