Senior Judiciary Official Blasts West’s Support for PJAK

A senior Iranian judiciary official lashed out at the European countries, Germany in particular, for their support for the Iraq-based armed opposition group, PJAK (Party for a Free Life in Kurdistan).
Speaking to the Islamic republic news agency, First Deputy Head of the Judiciary Ebrahim Raeesi criticized Germany for granting refuge to PJAK leader Rahman Haj-Ahmadi.

He also called on Berlin to take legal action against Haj-Ahmadi, noting that the German government has failed to meet its international commitments in the fight against terror.

The Iranian judiciary official further stated that some Western countries trumpet their battle against terrorism, but support terrorist groups, which is an epitome of their hypocrisy and double-standard policy.

The Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) launched a series of attacks on the bases of the banned group near Iran’s border with Iraq.

About 5,000 military forces were deployed in the Northwestern parts of the country along its joint border with the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

During the operations, the IRGC forces killed, injured and arrested tens of terrorists and destroyed their headquarters in the bordering areas of Alvatan near Sardasht city in Northwestern Iran.

Last Sunday, Chairwoman of Iran’s parliament Human Rights Commission Zohreh Elahian wrote a letter the German Federal Parliament, criticizing Berlin’s failure to meet its international commitments in the fight against terror and its granting refuge to Haj-Ahmadi.

She also asked Germany to hand over the PJAK chief to Iran so that he could be brought to justice.

Last Saturday, the Iranian Foreign Ministry summoned the German charge d’affaires in Tehran to voice Iran’s strong protest against the presence and free activity of the terrorist group in Germany.
PJAK, a militant Kurdish nationalist group with bases in the mountainous regions of Northern Iraq, has been carrying out numerous attacks in Western Iran, Southern Turkey and the Northeastern parts of Syria where the Kurdish populations live.

The separatist group has been fighting to establish an autonomous state, or possibly a new world country, in the area after separating Kurdish regions from Iran, Iraq, Turkey and Syria.

Iranian intelligence and security officials have repeatedly accused Washington of providing military support and logistical aids for such anti-Iran terrorist groups.
