Senior MP: Iraq-Iran-Syria Joint Military Drills to Stop US Support for ISIL

A senior Iraqi legislator underlined the necessity for staging joint military wargames by Iran, Iraq and Syria to block Washington's continued support for the ISIL terrorist group.

Hanin Qadou, a representative of al-Bina coalition in the Iraqi parliament, was quoted by the Arabic-language al-Ma’aloumeh news website as saying that holding the wargames by the three countries is necessary.

“If the drills are staged, Washington’s way to impose its influence and support the ISIL will be blocked,” he added.

Qadou underscored that Iraq’s security is directly tied to Syria and Iran’s security and joint drills by them will bring stability and security to the entire region.

His remarks came after the Syrian army conducted military drills near the US base in al-Tanf region as part of preparations for a massive operations against the terrorist groups.

The drills backed by the Army fighter jets and artillery units were conducted 20 kilometers Northwest of the US-controlled military base in al-Tanf region on Saturday.

The drills were designed to maintain the Syrian Army’s combat capabilities for advancing towards dangerous zones and conducting military operations at any time.

The wargames by the Syrian Army are unprecedented and come as tensions are rising over the US presence in al-Tanf region and the battle of the Syrian Army with the ISIL terrorists in an area from T2 Station up to the surrounding areas of al-Sukhneh in Eastern Homs.

Photos taken from military drills displayed the Syrian Army’s infantry units, main combat tanks, combat vehicles and artillery units participating in the drills. A number of warplanes of the Syrian Arab Air Force also took part in the drills.
