Seven US troops killed in Afghan war

Seven more American soldiers have been killed and several others injured in another deadly day for US troops in war-torn Afghanistan.

The soldiers were slain in two separate bomb attacks in the country’s volatile south, NATO said in a statement.

It said five troopers were killed in one of the attacks.

The statement did not reveal further details or the nationalities of those killed and injured.

At least 478 foreign troops — 315 of them Americans — have been killed in Afghanistan so far this year.

According to official figures, more than 2,000 US-led soldiers have been killed in Afghanistan since the start of the war in 2001.

Figures released by Afghanistan’s Baakhtar news agency, however, put the death toll close to 4,500.

The rising casualties of the US-led forces have increased opposition to the Afghan war in the US and other countries contributing troops to the mission.
