Sheikh Qassem: Resistance Deterrence Equations Target ’’Israel’’, Ready for Dialogue on Electoral Law

The Deputy Secretary General of Hizbullah His Eminence Sheikh Naim Qassem stressed Wednesday “that the agreement on the electoral law is only achieved through dialogue with all parties.”

In an interview with “an-Nahar” Lebanese daily, Sheikh Qassem reiterated Hizbullah’s support to proportionality, noting that “the party is ready to initiate dialogue with all sides.”

“The electoral law will be issued from the Parliament, which includes all the Lebanese forces,” His Eminence confirmed, noting that ” the dialogue must include all parties.”
He further acknowledged that “it is not enough to demand a dialogue on proportionality, but it is necessary to hear responses and to reach results.”

“We will defend the proportionality proposal as we are ready to discuss it with different parties and present it to the Lebanese public to protect the a fair vote,” Shiekh Qassem viewed.
He also added that “Hizbullah is ready for detailed discussions with the parties opposed to and in favor of a law based on proportional representation in order to reach an electoral law closer to fairness.”
“We didn’t close the door of dialogue on this topic…However, those against a proportional electoral law did not provide one shred of evidence to justify rejecting it,” His Eminence said.

In response to claims linking proportionality to the resistance arms, Sheikh Qassem clarified that “2009 elections proved that neither the resistance’s arms nor any other sides weapons invalidated the course of elections.”
“On that day, “March 14” raised the slogan of rejecting the results if they were not in their interest, because “they are under the threat of weapon”,” the Deputy secretary General reminded.

“”March 14″ won the elections and accepted the results forgetting all about the slogan of weapons,” he added, reiterating Hizbullah’s rejection to postponing the elections.
In parallel, His Eminence called to tackle the dangers of vote-buying instead of arms.
“We have the right to talk about the risks of the expected vote-buying,” Sheikh Qassem stated, assuring that “the resistance’s arms are only targeted against “Israel”.”
On another level, he said that “May 2000 liberation is a great historic day that didn’t witness any internal incident.”
“This day was the key to launch a military uprising in Palestine, after months of Lebanon’s victory,” His Eminence stressed, rejecting to compare this day with any other Lebanese day since the Independence.
He also viewed “any attempt to undermine this day is failing for it will face the bright reality with an illusion.”

On the equation the Secretary General of Hizbullah His Eminence Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah launched regarding specific targets in Tel Aviv, he said: ” the resistance’s preparations to any future confrontation with “Israel” are certainly more important and powerful than those that appeared during the July 2006 war.”
“Without the deterrence equation and the constant improvement on the level of the resistance’s readiness, “Israel” would have, since 2006, attacked many villages and towns, killed several persons and practiced daily aggressions,” Sheikh Qassem said.
His Eminence concluded that “all bets on the impact of regional events on the resistance readiness are wrong
