Six Israeli warplanes fly over Lebanon

As many as six Israeli military aircraft have violated the Lebanese airspace, the country’s Army has said in a statement.

The fighter planes breached the Lebanese airspace at 09:35 a.m. (local time), entering from the south on Tuesday, a Press TV correspondent reported, citing the statement.

They overflew different areas throughout the country before leaving at 11:10 a.m also from the south.

The intrusions contravene the United Nations Security Council Resolution 1701 which obliges Tel Aviv to keep out of Lebanon following its 2006 war on the country, during which about 1,200 Lebanese, most of them civilians were killed.

However, Israel continues to commit the violations on an almost daily basis, claiming that the operations serve surveillance purposes.

According to evidence submitted to the UN by Beirut, Israel has breached the provisions of the resolution on more than 7,000 occasions by violating Lebanon’s airspace, territorial waters and border.
