At least six people have sustained injuries in rocket attacks by foreign-sponsored militants targeting residential areas in Syria’s capital, Damascus, as well as the western city of Homs.

A police source, speaking on condition of anonymity, said three civilians, including two students and a teacher, were injured when a number of rockets landed in downtown Damascus on Monday, Syria’s official SANA news agency reported.

The source added that those injured in the attack were transferred to the Red Crescent Hospital to receive medical treatment.

Militants also fired rockets into the Ikrima residential area of Homs, located 162 kilometers (100 miles) north of Damascus. The projectiles fell near a school, inflicting wounds of various degrees on three civilians.

Cities and towns across Syria have frequently come under bomb attacks as well as mortar and rocket fire by militants since crisis erupted in the country nearly four years ago.

On March 4, a 10-year-old girl was killed and five other civilians were injured when five mortar shells hit the southern Damascus neighborhood of al-Sayeda Zainab.

Syria has been grappling with a deadly crisis since March 2011. The violence fueled by Takfiri groups has so far claimed the lives of over 210,000 people, according to reports. New figures show that over 76,000 people, including thousands of children, lost their lives in Syria last year.

Over 3.8 million Syrians have left their country since the beginning of the crisis. More than 7.2 million Syrians have also become internally displaced, according to the United Nation.
